City Note 07
HYDERABAD
A reading-life note for Hyderabad: mapped slowly, checked carefully, updated as public records improve.
Overview
The note
Hyderabad’s literary geography is distributed across Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, Himayatnagar, and Afzalgunj. Lamakaan, an open cultural centre, is central to this. Literature there regularly crosses into film, history, and civic debate rather than sitting apart from it.
It would be a mistake to frame Hyderabad around a single festival or an old-city/new-city split. The city’s reading infrastructure, Akshara Books, the monumental State Central Library, Orient BlackSwan’s academic publishing, and Emesco’s Telugu list, is genuinely distributed.
